Pencilled In: The LIMINAL edition
August 13, 2019

To ‘pencil something in’ is to insist on an instability. Plans made cautiously; the ground you stand on is not stable. To exist in a ‘liminal state’ is much the same: an existence at the edge, or between two things.

To celebrate the LIMINAL guest-edited issue of Pencilled In, we hosted a launch as part of Writers Victoria’s 2019 Season at the Writers Victoria library.

Featuring performances by Rachel Ang, Madison Griffiths, Sumudu Samarawickrama, Cher Tan.

EWF x LIMINAL: Interstital
June 27, 2019

Salman Rushdie notes that the diasporic identity is “plural and partial” – sometimes we straddle two cultures, and other times, we fall between two stools. What does it mean to be both? What could it mean to stand on the hyphen that connects and separates; to build a self within interstitial space?

Working with the Emerging Writers Festival, I produced a night, to explore this idea through poetry, prose and comics.

Featuring Rachel Ang, Heather Joan Day, Peo Michie, Darlene Silva Soberano and Jessie Tu.

LUCKY at Mapping Melbourne Festival
December 8, 2018

Lucky like a star. Lucky like a golden dime. The luckiest penny in the well, all is well, oh well. Get lucky, stay lucky, good luck! Lucky like rubbing a statue’s belly, like the number 8. Lucky like a clover, plucked like a daisy, lucky like a flower in the concrete. Honk twice if you’re lucky, like a rabbit with its tiny feet still attached, like finding a wishbone, or a plastic waving cat.

As part of Multicultural Arts Victoria’s Mapping Melbourne Festival, I produced LUCKY, a night of poetry and music.

The event featured poets Non Chalant, Madison Griffiths, Chi Tran, Jennifer Nguyen, Heather Joan Day, Tanya Ali, and Manisha Anjali, and musicians Rainbow Chan, Tracey Chen, AIYA and SAL.
