Collisions (Pantera Press, 2020)

The LIMINAL Fiction Prize was first announced in 2019. The Prize—the first of its kind in Australia—sought fiction themed around ‘the future’ and was judged by Julie Koh, Evelyn Araluen and Brian Castro.

Collisions features the long-listed authors from the 2019 LIMINAL Fiction Prize. Featuring work from both emerging and established writers of colour, the stories in Collisions transcend genre and experiment with style. They are necessary reading for everybody with an interest in the future of fiction and our planet. Although many of these visions are dystopic, the quality of their writers is something the future has to look forward to.

Collisions presents a diverse collection of work that have often been ignored or elided in a time where marginalised voices are still unheard. It exists to re-centre the voices of writers of colour and to encourage dynamic narratives, to bring about a more robust literary landscape in Australia's future. Contributors include Claire G. Coleman, Elizabeth Flux, Bobuq Sayed, Bryant Apolonio, Mykaela Saunders, and more. Read more here.

[…] Its true, Collisions isn’t about everybody, but we do think it should be read by everyone. And when you’re moved, or you see yourself or your friends, or you understand someone else a little better? Don’t forget to keep reading.”

“Taking the pulse of the future in 16 sessions, this book shows how the short story has so much to offer. At its best, the form can provide both a slap on the face of complacency, and a beguiling invitation to revisit again and again.”
